Cross Country Poster

In late 2023, I was approached by a friend to design a custom poster celebrating her boyfriend’s cross-country season. Inspired by Nike campaigns and contemporary sports design, I focused on creating a dynamic composition that visually balances the personal and collective aspects of cross-country running.

The Process

Sketch

My friend sent me a few different images she wanted me to use, with the criteria that a picture of the whole team was included. I based my sketch from those pictures, and was looking at a lot of Nike and sports poster alike.

Day 01

I was working on this side project during finals, so I spent time on it when I could. Not a lot happening right now, but I knew where I was going.

Day 02

It's starting to come together now. I don't know how many Bobcat logos I edited to get the right ink bleed effect.

Day 03

I really wanted to add some texture. I started playing around with some photocopy streaks, but wasn't sure that was the right move.

Day 04

Still not happy with texture. But adding in some blue is really changing things. Tinted the fog blue as well. Maybe its too dark...

Abandoned the photocopy streaks entirely and chose a brighter paper texture. From here, I added in some more spray paint effects and adjusted my levels and curves on photoshop a hundred more times. I think the white background helps the blues stand out more.
